IEEE PHM Conference in China



The IEEE 2011 Prognostics and System Health Management PHM-2011 Conference was held May 23-25, 2011, in Shenzhen, China. The conference, chaired by Professor Michael Pecht, attracted nearly 200 international experts and representatives from industry, academia, and government agencies, including Lenovo, Huawei Technology, Emerson Network Power, NASA, EADS, Academy of Armored Force Engineering, the University of Maryland, Tsinghua University, CAPE (AVIC), the National University of Defense Technology, Beihang University, and others. Professor Pecht opened the conference on May 24 with an address on the current state of PHM research, setting the stage for the presentation of over 115 papers by experts and researchers in the field of PHM. The papers covered a variety of topics in PHM theory as well as industrial applications of PHM in aerospace, computers, nuclear plants, building services, power and electronics systems, and healthcare and medical technologies. Presentations from renowned PHM experts Professor Qiang Yu (Yokohama National University, Japan), Professor Gautam Biswas (Vanderbilt University), and Professor Peter Sandborn (CALCE) were among the highlights of the conference.


A major presence at the conference, CALCE led two tutorial sessions on - Reliability, Diagnostics, Systems Health Management and Prognostics and PHM implementation in China on May 23. Dr. Bhaskar Saha (Mission Critical Technologies, Inc. / NASA) also offered a brief tutorial on - Battery Health Management for Electric Vehicles at the start of the third day of activities on May 25.
